In your short game DVD has mention: for chipping use 5,7,9 iron. Their air/ground ratio is 1 air and 2 ground (or 1 ground and 2roll).
I did test them out.., the ratio is similar to the Golf Digest one as shown:

"The Golf Magazine Complete Guide to Golf book gives this as the answer:

6-iron carry 1, roll 6
7-iron carry 1, roll 5
8-iron carry 1, roll 4
9-iron carry 1, roll 3
pitching wedge carry 1, roll 2
Sand wedge carry 1, roll 1 "

Dave Pelz in his book has a chart that has:

6-iron - 13-1,,,,,,,,,,,,roll 48-74 total 62-2 (I don't understand what are these numbers for, are they in feet??
7-iron carry 16-7 ... roll 44-4 total 61-1
8-iron carry 18-1 42-6 total 60-7
9-iron carry 19-5 36-8 total 56-3
PW carry 19-9 36-8 total 56-7

Which one is good to follow. Please advice. Thanks.

Lisa

Lisa,
I have been using Golf Magazine's chart for a while and it is very good. it is 1 foot of air time to (6 iron) 6 yards of roll. you use a base of 12 for the club. if you have 6 yards of green to work with (18 feet) then you minus 6 from 12 gives you 6 iron. if you have 5 yards (15 feet) use 7 iron to chip... and so on.
Hope that helps you out.

Yes, I tried the math.., it works
For example if I have 3 yards of green to work with then I take 12 - 3= 9. I will use a 9 Iron to chip.

But I am still wondering about the air /ground ratio;
Like for a 9 iron, it will be 1 ground, 3 roll so the pharse "1 ground and 2 roll "in your short game DVD does not apply for each iron. Right??

Yesterday, I went to a pitching area. Play at least 12 balls each for each club (PW , SW and LW at 7 o'clock, 8, 9 , 11 position.., it works great. I think I will break 90 this season...Thank you very much .

yes, it works with all clubs...1/3 air, 2/3 roll

So what about this list (for chipping) then

6-iron carry 1, roll 6
7-iron carry 1, roll 5
8-iron carry 1, roll 4
9-iron carry 1, roll 3
pitching wedge carry 1, roll 2
Sand wedge carry 1, roll 1 "
Like when I use a 9 iron to chip. I see my ball ground 1 and roll 3 (instead of 2)
or if I use a 7 iron: 1 ground and 5 part roll (not 1 gorund and 2 roll).
Please clarify..thank you

I like to have 1/3 air 2/3 roll for the 5-7-9 irons.
