Hi, Bobby:
How are you doing? May I tell you a little story about my golf swing during 2006 and now?
I have been bothering by the painful left elbow (I'm right-handed, 60 years old, male, shoot around 80) mainly at the joint. So, I stopped trying to keep my left arm straight during back swing and hitting ball with my left arm, instead, I hit ball with my right arm. The result was the ball flying higher which was my goal to reach (I was happy about it.). But then my right elbow started to get hurt also. So, I had to hit ball with both arms evenly hard. The result was surprisingly straight (no draw) and farther (20 yds or more). Looks like the pain and skill go together with me. Would you please tell me your opinion about this? How to avoid the golf elbow and pain? Did I do anything wrong?
By the way, I spent about two months seeing chiropractor to reduce the pains from my elbows and nearby muscles. Now, I feel much better, but after a round or two of golf, my arms are still a little sore and painful.
Best Regards,
yuda shyu

A couple of things for starters, do you have graphite shafts in all of your golf clubs? Graphite reduces the vibration and this could really help. Secondly, the steeper the down swing angle the more impact on the elbows. The shallower the angle the less impact on the elbows. I think it this is the time for you to catch up on some short game practicing until the pain goes away.
The way you self corrected yourself is the right fix.

I'm having trouble turning my waist before impact and was wondering if you could give me some help on how to do this. I read somewhere that I should think Hip, Turn, FollowThrough.
Also I read that the divot should be in front of the ball. Someone said that this is done by hitting down on the ball . How is this done?
I think both of these questions are someshat related. My order # is 1000704108 on 4-15-07

yes on turning the hip thru...on the second one you are also correct, ball-turf...however, ball-turf is a RESULT of swinging the lofted clubs from the inside on the correct path. The flatter clubs five iron on up will not create such a deep divot, it is still ball-turf. Bend over an inch or two at address from the hips, that will also help...let me know if this helps

Bobby,
How do you initiate the downswing in order to prevent getting outside the line
and either pulling or slicing the shot.
Why is it that on my practice swings I stay down and when I hit the ball I fallaway? Driver only.

Hey slic, do you believe in ESP(N). Where do you live? At 6:00am Scottsdale time I did a video lesson on amatuer golfers falling off balance when they hit their golf shots.
They never do it on a practice swing, just on the shot with a ball.
My cure, your practice swing is the pace you should be using when hitting the shot from the tee or fairway.

I have no problem with my practice swing before actually hitting my shot, but when I take my stance to hit the ball my left side tightens and I can't for the life of me start my back-swing. When that occurs I start shuffling my feet trying to get comfortable to start my swing which changes my alignment. When I finally can swing my arms and shoulders are definitely not relaxed the way they're suppose to and of course my swing lacks power. This hasn't always been a problem but has gotten progressively worse the last year. I think I have the Charles Barkley syndrome. Everyone says it's just in my head but my only swing thought is to take the club back which doesn't want to happen. Any suggestions?

Hi Bobby -
I'm 54 and have decided to fix my old swing after many years of inconsistent play. I enjoyed my second strong round after learning from the full swing DVD. My front 9 was very good and shot 40 including a birdie. Kept my swing simple and just focused on shoulder rotation and balance at finish. Hit about 3 shots fat. The back side was another story and shot 47. Often pushed my drive and mid irons right and hit a few fat shots. Also hit a couple of drives off the heel. It feels like when I get a little tired that my downswing speeds up and I don't move my weight forward. Can you help?
Also, watched your apprentice chip shot lesson and that really helped me get a better feel for those shots and had several improved results.
Thank you,
Kurt
Can you advise? Thanks Bobby.
