Fairway woods

Bobby,

I have no problems hitting a Fairway wood off the Tee but wjen it comes to hitting a Fairway wood, most notably the 3 wood, I lack any consistency: more often than not I seem to top the ball and when I do hit a pure strike, it goes left or right but never straight. Is there a technique I should adpot to be most consistent off the Fairway and hit it straight.
