I have a 12 index and my wife is a 14 index. I have been plagued with fat or heel shots and she has always had a problem with thin shots. If I don't hit fat or toward the hell I can sometimes hit in the 70's and she can hit in low 80's if she doesn't hit thin. I have been trying to figure what makes us so different. I can also get the shanks. I read once that a shank is always caused by coming into the ball with the hosel first meaning an open club face. That is not my problem. I tend to hit it straight or with a slight draw. My problem shots are hooks.

I have tried stretching my hands out more (unconfortable), putting all my weight on my heels, sticking my butt out as far back as possible, addressing the ball with the toe of the club rather than the center, picking a spot in front of the ball to hit, ect.. It is not because I come down to steep it's because I move toward the ball causing me to hit toward the heel (which happens most of the times) or to hit fat. I sometimes will fall toward the ball and my wife sometimes falls away from the ball.

On the range if I do everything to keep from falling forward so that I don't hit toward the heel I can hit straight almost everytime. On the course I try not to think but just focus on the target. Once in awhile I don't seem to have that problem and will start hitting very low scores only to have it come back. Have had this problem for years. Any suggestions?

How are you?

Ladies FIRST:
#1 Tell your wife that I want her to bend over from the hips one inch, if they are still thin, one inch more. It will feel very uncomfortable at the beginning.
#2 Tell your wife that before she tees off, I want her to make 20 swings from a DOWNHILL LIE...ball going away from her. If she can hit balls great, if not just swining will help.
#3 Tell her to get back to me with the results. Specific results

DON:
I read once that a shank is always caused by coming into the ball with the hosel first meaning an open club face. There are three ways to shank a ball. That is one of them.

I think you come too much from the inside and you are locked.

I want you to try and play nine holes cutting EVERYTHING. A slight fade. Use a 6 iron instead of a 7.

Let me know the results.

This is a very late reply but your instructions for my wife did help. As for me I still had the same problem but after looking at alot of your videos I found my problem was because I would swing my club back more down the line than around. I got that from being told not to pull it to the inside but to go straight back the first foot. After watching my self in a mirror over and over I saw that going straight back made me move toward the ball. I also recently tried your power leg strap and that has helped get the feeling of rotating rather than moving straight back. It is a good training aid to really get the feel of what stability feels like and how the bend in the leg stays that way in the back swing.:)
