View Full Version : Shanking chips

I shank chips, shorter ones typically more often than long. I have had numerous lessons from various instructors and have been told many different things. Under video, I shanked one and the instructor's comment was that I take the club inside, move my hands away from my body and then swing the club head out rather than square to in. I don't typically take a divot at all on my chips. I am a 9 handicap golfer and this happens about 1 out of 10 chips right now. Do the comments above make sense and is there anything you would add that could help, like drills or something? I try to follow the above comments, but I still am doing it. Thanks!

Swing the clubhead out. If this is correct you are swinging the club back too shallow.

I want you to place a towel three or four inches behind the golf ball and I want you to swing the clubhead UP in the backswing (missing the towel) and DOWN in the downswing (missing the towel).

Let me know if this helps.
