Default Cannot stop coming over the top!!

I cannot stop coming over the top and cutting the ball. For whatever reason I cannot get my arms to drop down and be on the correct plane so I end up cutting the ball. It is very noticable with the driver since it starts left of the target line andat about 225 out makes a big slice to the right. It is not so apparent on the 3W or the irons maybe do to the loft. It is killing me on distance to loose some 30-40 yards on a slice and be way behind my playing partners not to mention the number of penaly strokes I have to take for lost balls. Please help with ideas and drills!!!! I try to keep light pressure on my grip and my alignment is correct but once I begin the downswing I am done. It is hard to break old habits. Thanks

Go to Full Swing & Driver section and read "A Great Drill" posts. This WILL fix your slice if you work at it. Otherwise, get a 12-13* loft driver which will do wonders for your slice and NO it will not cost you a lot of distance. Finally, for a sure cure, buy the new Titanium driver from 1iron golf. It's the easiest to hit and most accurate driver available imo.

Are you talking about the drill to put three balls behind your target ball to work on delayed wrists? How will this help me from coming over the top? I am visually having trouble understaning how this will help my problem.

bsinclair,

Do not be discourage, you are among 90% of the amateur golfers. This move, "over the top", it's natural and instinctive. Only practicing the right drills will help you get rid of it. I'm sure Bobby has a great tip for you. Wait for him to answer and practice what he advices.

Regards,

If you are coming over the top you are certainly breaking your wrists prematurely. Succeed in the drill and you will not be breaking them early. Just try it. The results of the drill when done properly are not subtle.

I'm assuming "coming over the top" = casting = early unhinging of wrist, all of which leads to weak slices. Good luck and I agree with Pat in that Bobby will surely have something for you.

I am trying the delayed wrist drill and started putting my golf bag like 3 feet behind the ball to work on taking the club on an inside plane and keeping me from coming over the top on the down swing. I look forward to seeing what Bobby recommends.

bsinclair let me jump in here and see if I can help. First and foremost are your shoulders aimed square or to the right of the fairway? #2 Can you see two or three knuckles of the left hand? #3 The TOE of the driver has to arrive before the HEEL of the driver. Make sure you roll in the downswing.

Let me know if this helped.

Bobby
