Hi Bobby,
For about 6-7 years now I have had a consistent problem of coming over the top. After having watched your "Full Swing" DVD I can now see and "feel" that I bring my right shoulder over the top rather than starting the backswing with my right arm (while at the same time turning my left hip behind me as I rotate through the ball). All of my divots cut across my target line from right to left. I have found that as I'm instituting the "right arm" first motion in the downswing as discussed on your video I tend to make better contact with the ball and my divots aren't quite as bad, although they are still going from right to left across my target line. My shots typically result in a fade starting left of my target and coming back, sometimes it's just an outright slice. I'm taking a straight back takeaway as described in your video, but I'm wondering if (for me) I need to take the club back a little more towards the inside, yet still keeping my right elbow touching my right side on the backswing in order to help promote a more inside to outside swing path on the downswing? I was hoping that you could post a key drill or two that I could use to help me "break" my over the top problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for putting out a great video Bobby! |

There are a couple of things I want you to try.
#1. Make sure your shoulders are aimed 10% RIGHT of your target every time. This will help the club swing up and down on the inside. #2 Hit some balls with both feet and both knees touching each other. This will help you feel the path down into the ball. #3 Hit some balls on a side hill lie (ball above your feet). #4 Get back to me with the results. Bobby |
