Towel Drill

To pitch the ball close you need to be able to master your distance control. Here is a drill to help you work on landing your pitches in the right spot:
Stretch a golf towel out on the chipping green. Pitch a few ball from different spots trying to land each pitch on the towel. This helps you visualize the flight, landing point, and roll your pitches should have. Vary the lies and distances you hit your pitches from, but try to hit the same spot with each pitch. Once you have mastered one landing spot, move the towel and continue the drill.
Ultimately, you want to be approach your pitches on the golf course like this. Visualize the trajectory and roll your pitch will have, and then pick out your landing spot. A lot of amateurs just think about where they want their ball to end up, pick out your landing spot and your pitching will improve.
