Cool Firm left wrist

My instructor is really pushing me to keep my left wrist firm throughout the chipping stroke and I am having a very difficult time keeping it completely straight during the followthrough. Is it imperative that the wrist stay totally straight or is it ok to have a little wrist bend? I seem to worry so much about my wrist that I am shanking and topping everything when before the lesson I was in my opinion a pretty good chipper

The golf ball is gone so you can bend the wrist all you want. Yes it should stay firm going back and in the downswing but after impact it does not play any role. I hope this helped
