Default Greenside rough

I have a lot of difficulty with short pitches out of Bermuda green-side rough.

If I play the ball back in my stance, the ball comes out too low.
It's basically a chip.

With a centered ball position to get enough height I have a hard time getting the right combination of firmness and strength. Either I hit the ball too far, or the club gets tangled in the grass and I don't make crisp contact and the ball could go anywhere.

Longer shots I have much less problem with. Then I have enough clubhead speed to cut through the rough.

What's the trick to hitting a short shot out of a tangly lie?
