Default Putting Arc

I was struggling making putts, especially 3 feet or less, so I bought a putter that is a mallet type; it's about 4 inches deep, as opposed to my blade putter which is about 1 inch deep. There are two putting styles - one that brings the club back on an inside arc, then square to the ball at impact, and then back thru on an inside arc. A second is where the club comes straight back and then straight thru on the downswing, thus no inside arc. Which type should be used with my mallet head putter?
