Smile Seniors

I'm a reborn golfer - just returned to swinging a club after 42 years of abstinence. Started as a caddy, then played in college for my fraternity, joined the Army and went to Viet Nam and never saw my clubs again. The Army bases I was stationed at never had a golf club also. So now, at 65, I find myself trying to find a game again. My problem: my left arm is pretty stiff, and I find I can't get it long on my backswing. Should I shorten my backswing and give up some power in order to keep the left arm straight? Best from Bavaria! Rick

Default Hey Veteran Rick

Hey Rick -
almost the very same story with me- including 2 tours in Vietnam.
Have a hard time with my back, doing the "turn", and
so give-up a lot of power. I just came back to golf after 30+
years, and having a hard time keeping the ball on the fairway.
Most of my drives go out 150yds, but then in the process, make
a HARD-LEFT (hook) by 40+yds ( I am a right-hander golfer ).
So far, the only way I can straighten the "hook", is at address,
to drop the Right foot BACK away from the target line by a
distance of 1/2 foot(literally), so my shoulders point to the
Right of my target line. Sometimes it works, sometimes NOT.
Hands are very stiff, with arthritis setting in.
BUT I STILL ENJOY THE GAME!!! Season is done here in the
North-East, but the driving ranges are open= Thank God!!!
