Diminishing Distance with lower lofted clubs
I am 72 years old, and carry a 12-15 handicap, but my "diminishing distance" problem has been with me all the 50 years I have played golf. To illustrate: My sand wedge is 90-110; PW 100-115, working up to 7-iron at 150. But when I got up the line, I no longer get the increase. A 6-iron, for instance goes only about 3 yards farther than the 7, and the 5-iron only about 156 yards. Working up to the driver, average drive is 200-210, and a really good one for me is 220-225.
The seniors I play with can hit the ball 250-275 with their drivers (mine is a 10.5 degree loft). I'm not going by what they say..I play with them, and I see them do it. I'm reasonably coordinated, and cannot understand why I cannot hit the ball farther. I feel I am being "robbed" of one of the great joys in golf that I perceive in killing a drive.
Can you help me with this?
