    Default Golf Balls

Bobby, I thought your Senior DVD was informative and although difficult to accept sometimes, realistic....one of the areas you talked about was using wound golf balls....are these 2-piece balls, low compression, etc ? I am sure my swing speed is under 100MPH maybe 90MPH....would appreciate if you could recommend some brands that fit your specs for seniors...THX ROB

    Rob,
A 2 piece, low compression ball is probably what you are looking for. Try some of these and try to find one you like best:

    Bridgestone e5
    Titleist DT Solo
    Callaway Warbird
    TaylorMade Burner

If these feel too hard to you and you are looking for a little softer feel around the greens, here are a few that offer some of the attributes you need but with a softer cover:

    Titleist NXT Tour
    Callaway HX Bite
    TaylorMade TP Burner

    Cory,

What would you recommend for someone with a swing speed over 105 mph?

    John,
What is more important to you in a ball, distance or feel?

    Corey,

How about a blend? Warmer weather gets me 240+ yardage; my 150 yd club is my 9 or 8 depending whether on fairway or going for an elevated green. At the moment, I have touch, and therefore my putting is around 30 putts, but would like to go a little lower. I don't think longer will improve my score much and my current goal is no more than 3 strokes from 100 yds and in. Greens right now are a work in progress at several courses I have played, so I am not sure how important it is to get a "putting" ball. Still curious to know what I might consider buying as a sleeve.

I am a bit more interested in lower ball spin, which is suppose to give more consistent distance because ballooning is supposedly reduced.

If it helps, I have a custom driver, makser 400cc 10 degree head, Nvidea stiff shaft - length is just under 44". A short swing was getting me 220 yds (that is carry distance, no roll out on soft ground) when the temps were in the 40's and 50's with regular rain.

I am looking more for consistency and not raw distance increase.

    John,
Try out the new TaylorMade Penta ball. It has five layers and each are designed to help a certain ball flight characteristic; feel, spin, control, launch and spin. I actually just tried these balls out today for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Try it out, probably the best choice when looking for the blend...

    Corey,

I'll keep the Penta on my short list. June Golf Digest "Hot List" dedicates 8 pages to golf balls. Price point is from $20 - $50. I have acquired some of the balls on their list over the past year or so (found balls, cheap sleeves, and just plain good deals), so it looks like play time. I'll let you know the outcome for me. (If I can find a sleeve of the Pentas at reasonable price, I will give them a try.)

    thanks for the suggestions.

    Corey,

weather finally cooperated for a short time, so I snuck out to play. Because it has been so rainy (we have gotten almost 5" of rain this month - double normal amount), I decided to play an inexpensive ball. Won't name it, but by the 5th hole, it broke. Still shot a 46 on front nine, putted a lot better than I drove the ball. Suppose to rain for the next 40 days, oops - I mean for the next week, so.....
