    Default Which club?

For distances of say 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 yards from the pin with about 20 feet between the edge of the green and the pin, which club do you recommend for chipping?

None of these distances represent a CHIP shot....a chip is 1/3 air, 2/3 roll. The 1/3 air MUST land on the green...these are all pitch shots.

    Default Chipping club selection

Bobbys' answer was correct-the question as framed was ceratinly not a chip shot, but the quesion of club selection for chipping is still valid.
I would suggest, for the 1/3-2/3 "rule", and using the minimum backswing and zero wrist action, the lofted club that will carry the "1/3" distance for you is the one to use: this suggests that this can be any iron, or even a fairway wood! That said, I personally prefer to simplify, (given the choke down suggested) to only one or two clubs- a 9 iron for say from 20 to 30 feet from the hole, and a 7 iron for anything further.say up to 50 feet or so to gain additional roll.
No substitute for practice! chipping is all feel-assuming you are using the method suggested in the "simplified chip shot"
