    Default Chipping distances

    Quick question, is there an optimal distance you should chip the different irons? It seems like I am hitting my chip shots to hard.

    I think of my chips as a putt. The distance to the hole determines the lenght of my back stroke. 5,6,7,irons smaller stroke 8,9,pw mid stroke, sw, lw long stroke. but my hands never go pass my right thigh.

    If you play golf where the greens are not terrible fast and yet not real slow, drop some balls 5 feet from the green and mark off 30 feet. Your 9 iron chip should not go past that. Maybe you could learn to hit it 10-30 feet with a 9, 30-50 with a 7 and over 50 feet use a 5 iron. Try those numbers and see if you can work on that.

    Default tempo of downswing

    Bob,

    I've tried the chipping techniques, and when I'm hitting 10 or more balls in a row, I can get in the groove, but for a single shot in the midst of a game, the variation in the tempo of the downswing seems to introduce too much variability in the results. Prior to this technique, I used a PW and figured that the ball would roll about the same distance (1x) as I would fly it to the first bounce. For a 9 iron, i figured about 2x more distance, and with an 8 iron about 3x more distance than I'd fly to the first bounce on the green. So then it was a feel issue if I could get the flight to the right spot on the green. With your method, the feel for the down swing pace is missing. That's the problem I'm having.

    Default 60 degree wedge

    I would like to know the importance of 60 degree wedge over Sand wedge and under what circumstance and distances it should be used.

    The 60 degree wedge goes higher, lands softer and flys SHORTER than the sand wedge.

    I currently play of 1 and am full time golf and i have many chipping drills that my coach has given me.

    when i am practicing distances i focus on landing areas
    so what i do is create a 4ft box with small cones i got from a sports shop and place them where i would want to land the chip i would then hit 10 balls whith each club from lw to 7 iron and record down how many i landed in the box.

    this is what my coach calls competietive practice
    it is very good as you dont get bored and you can easily see that you are improving.

    depending on your level of golf depends on how big a bocx you create with the cones or even tees whatever you want to use
