Thread: A GREAT drill

    Default A GREAT drill

for anyone, which is most of us mortals, needing to delay your release at impact. Hold that ****! Just put your ball about 3 club head lengths in front of three balls, set up to hit your ball, then place club head behind the 3 balls and take a swing at your ball without hitting the 3 balls....WOW! I just tried this with a 7i and a 3i hybrid...unbelievable results! Very clean crisp contact and much much better distance and accuracy. Bobby is right on when he preaches his anti casting wisdom.

Please try this and share results. Good luck!

P.S. The 3 balls are 90 degrees to your ball, not in a line. Your ball should be directly in front of the middle ball. If you can miss the 3 balls while cleanly contacting yours, all the benefits of a delayed release will be yours. The results of this drill are very dramatic.

Hi Robert. If I vision this correctly, the 3 balls should be positioned perpendicular to your target line behind the ball you are hitting. Should they be placed contacting each other or with some gap in between the 3 balls? Thanks for sharing....

Correct Beemer. I don't think it's important as to whether they touch or have a small gap between them. I think you could use tees and accomplish the same thing, maybe even safer.

I was shocked at the difference in my shots before and after mastering the drill. Because I thought I was sort of threading a needle, I'm sure I took a little off of my swing, yet the distance was much better than my harder swing. It was nice too to hear that solid click at impact like the better players usually get. I believe anybody who sets up and swings around their spine like Bobby teaches who also masters a delayed release can play pretty good golf, at least from tee to green. Just my opinion.

Good luck. Please let me know how it goes for you.

P.S. Be sure and follow-thru per Bobby's instructions.

Good luck sunny. I hope to get feedback from you and bmw! This drill made a real believer out of me in reference to the power of a delayed release.

I can't visualize how to do this, can some one explain more
clearly please ( it sounds a bit dangerous the way I envisage
    this drill )

It's really not dangerous. Just do it the first time alone on the driving range. If still concerned, just use tees instead of balls.

The drill is as follows: place 3 balls about 3 club head lengths behind your ball. The 3 balls are 90 degrees to your target line. They can be touching or just close together. Your ball will be directly in front of the center ball. Set-up to your ball. Then place your club head behind the 3 balls. Now take your normal backswing and on the downswing in order to miss the 3 balls you will have to maintain your wristhinge. Succeed and you'll enjoy the power and accuracy that only holding your real power until the last second can deliver. Let me know how you do! P.S. Follow-thru as Bobby teaches.

Just curious, anyone give this a go yet? Let us know how it went, especially if you spent a few minutes to master it. "Thanks".
