Default Slicing

I hit woods just fine. Why is it I can't hit an iron without slicing?

You don't slice woods but you slice the irons?

#1 can you see two or three knuckles of the left hand at address
#2 make sure you shoulders are square to where you are going
#3 grip lightly with both hands
#4 get back to me with the results

Default Slicing irons

Original question was posted on 7.8.08. I do not slice woods, but I do irons. Your answer. Make sure you can see two or three knucles on left hand, square shoulders & grip lightly.

I'm still slicing irons. I'll admit I'm not a great practice player. And, I only play once a week. However, I'm still perplexed that I can hit woods w/o slicing, but not irons. I use the same grip and same swing. Just doesn't make any sense to me. I know it has to do with squaring the club. But, why can I square the woods but not irons. I know a lot of players have trouble with just the opposite.

You are correct slicing the woods is more common than slicing the irons. With that being said, does your golf ball start left and then slice? Or does it start down the middle and then slice? Please get back to me right away.

My ball starts down the middle or maybe even starts right and keeps on slicing. On the rare occasion I hit an iron that does not have a severe slice, it starts middle to middle-right and fades.

If you can find a lie where the golf ball is above your feet you will be on your way to correcting your slice with the irons.

You don't even have to hit balls from this lie just make practice swings with the clubhead above your feet a foot or two.

Let me know if this helped.
