In a recent e-mail you advocated "checking your finish" and included a picture showing the correct position at the 3 o'clock position.
Over the years, one of my understandings for checking on the swing was that, at the 9 o’clock position the toe of the club should be pointing skywards and this should also be the case at the 3 o’clock position after impact. In fact, I use a practice drill where I hit balls while swinging only back to the 3 o’clock position and only follow through to the 9 o’clock position. To achieve this there is, indeed, a turn of the wrists but, when I check my position it is not a good match for the picture in your e-mail. In order to achieve a similar position I would have to turn my right wrist (I am right handed) considerably more than I am used to doing. Probably around 50º or 60º more. I also find it impossible to hit balls solidly when I attempt to do this while hitting balls on the range. Would you have any suggestions based on the limitations of this description? |

If the golf club is level to the ground, parallel to your feet line and the toe is pointing in the air, then you should be in the correct position.
Why would my wrists be turned any more than yours? As a matter of fact if you turn your right shoulder out of the way as you swing back to this position the wrists don't have to move much at all. Let me know if this helped. Bobby |

The joys of e-mail vs face-to-face discussion!!!
I believe your response is referring to the back swing to the 9 o'clock position whle my concern is that the position of my hands and wrists, after impact, at the 3 o'clock posiiton, are quite different than the picture in your newsletter. |

The swing analyser would help here. I found my swing plane ending up too vertical in the follow through, perhaps lower the left shoulder. club ends up coming around the left shoulder rather than around one's neck. The forearms will naturally cross over. What do you think Bobby?
