RE: Difficult time Starting Backswing
QUESTION:
Hi David,
First, thank you for all the great info. I have one quick question for now: I have no trouble getting to my address position and I am feeling good about getting the drift of the Simple Swing Theory. I am, however, having trouble starting the actual motion of my back swing. For some reason I can't get a "ready to start my back swing feeling". It seems like I get "Stuck" just before I start my back swing. Is this unusual and do you have a tip for me to overcome this?
Thank You in advance,
Dave Buckenheimer

Thanks for your e-mail…Maybe the computer is running with too much info. Download it. Ready, go thru your routine, take a deep breath and count to 3 then hit it. If that doesn't work, back away and do it again. Count to 3 and hit it. Do not stand around or your will really struggle with this…let me know if this helped.

RE: Keeping Left Elbow Straight
QUESTION:
David,
I purchased the Simple Golf Swing in April 2006. While I have from time to time tried the method set out in the instructional PDF file, I haven't found it easy to implement. In fact it feels quite alien not to take a full swing. Regardless, my new year's resolution is to go back and try again.
While playing a few games this week I noticed that my left elbow always bends, and no matter how hard I try (e.g. a shorter backswing) my left elbow still breaks. I have noticed that having the straight left elbow is a feature of a good golfers swing. So is there a trick or drill I could use to help keep my left elbow straight?
Regards, and all the best for 2007.

QUESTION:
Hi David,
I started using your method two weeks ago and now I start to see results off the tee and from the fairway. My last game I dropped 10 strokes (from 120 to 110, yes I'm a beginner) and I feel confident that I will improve further rapidly. Your method takes the stress away and builds confidence. Still I have some trouble when hitting from the rough or bunkers (getting the ball in the air). Any advice on how to approach those shots? I'm 6'9", my clubs are 1 " longer than standard length and I have more trouble hitting with my 9 and 8 irons then with my 7, 6, 5 or 4. Even my 46" driver feels more comfortable.

Good morning out of South Africa,
The tips I received from you about the swing - start the swing with arm first, keep lower body still and lead shoulder down on back swing, did help me very much . Thank you for the instructional material concerning divots. My problem is that I cannot make a divot. I can hit beautiful straight shots with my irons from LW through 4 iron IF I USE A TEE. QUESTION:
David,
I have been watching the DVD's over and over and it has really made a big improvement in my game. The biggest problem in my swing when using any of the irons is that I am not hitting it at the proper height. I am happy with the direction of my ball but I always hit the ball high. I seldom produce divots in my shots. What is wrong with my swing and how can I correct this fault?
Thanks a lot.

QUESTION:

I watched the video lesson where you talked about the left hip turning around your body on the downswing when using the driver. Is this same movement done with irons? I've been struggling with good contact with my irons. I think my shoulder turn is too flat. How do I get a slightly steeper shoulder turn and how does that relate to the turn of the left hip. Also, in regard to the straightening of the right arm on the downswing, does the straightening occur sooner or later with the driver compared with irons...sooner or later with irons compared to the driver?
Thanks

RE: Advise
QUESTION:
Hi David
I have tried introducing some aspects of the simple golf swing into my game. I have stuck with the set up of bending over at the hips to address the ball. I have tried to use the swing but find it did nothing for my game and have since gone back to my old swing…….basically I have had a bad 6 weeks of golf since trying to introduce the simple golf swing into my current game, and my confidence has dropped to an all time low. In one round alone I had every fault you could think of, scalf, topping, slicing etc all appeared during the round.
At the moment I do not feel I am hitting through the ball, and not following through, I seem to be hitting the ground a lot before the ball…..basically not going too well at the moment.
Any suggestions on what I can work on.
My handicap at the club is officially 25, but through the summer last year I was averaging 18, and had rounds of 9 and 13 over, now it is up in the 30's.
Please advise.

Peter

Thank you for the simple swing theory. I have reduced my handicap from 8.4 to 6.7 in last two months. I attribute to more constant tee and approach shots that I learned from your instructions.
I am currently experiencing a problem, and wonder if you have any suggestions. I am left handed and one or twice a round I will block a shot to the left? My normal flight shot is left to right (hook) but this block or push is normally straight? Any thoughts or ideas to eliminate?

At what point does one deliberately cock the left wrist & hinge the right wrist back (waiter tray mode) during the backswing, and do you then hold this wrist position into the impact zone while the right arm is gradually straightening during the downswing? Or is it, forget about wrist cocking, just let it happen naturally?

RE: Staying Connected
QUESTION:
David,
I'm 63 and my flexibility is only fair, about 75 degrees. QUESTION #1 - Should I continue to move my arms back "a little" even after my shoulders stop, or do I stop my arms when my shoulders stop?
I'm right handed with a tendency to fade, not slice. For example, my drive would come to rest less than 15 yards right of center --- bad, but not awful. But if I start my downswing with my arms, I hit a really straight ball. The problem is it definitely feels like an arm-swing - i.e. very straight but not as powerful. QUESTION #2 - Does it sound like I'm over-doing the arm-swing (delaying the body turn too long), or is the loss of power the cost of hitting it straight?
Thank you, Sonny.
Asked by Althouse13 on 2007-01-29 10:26:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…The swing is more arms than body..the body complements the arms swinging. You still must turn the body in the downswing…Arms first then body. In the back swing, you do not have to continue swinging the arms after the shoulder stops turning.

QUESTION:
On the downswing, what is the first move... is it your left hip or the arms dropping or....??? I've read Hogan's book and the whole thing has become a bit confusing actually. On the backswing.... what actually starts the club back? Is it your hands? The turning of the hips? One piece takeaway? Can you describe this as well; what does the right hand do at impact? The club head is not actually released until after impact - correct? Man - you were right when you said that you can't think about all this stuff once the club is in the right position at the top of your backswing; I liked your drill with your feet together and swinging the club; this really gives you the turning feeling.... Give me a few of your thoughts... thx, rh

RE: Set up/ Triangle in Arms
QUESTION:
Hey David,
My name is Micah I'm 16 and golf everyday. I once asked you a question regarding the elbows being locked, I have thought about it, and think maybe I know why you say to do this. You know that triangle formed by the hands and arms at set up? Well, I have found out that the reason for shanks and toed shots is because that triangle changes shape. I noticed that lately, my triangle has been changing shape, causing the occasional shank and short off centered hits. My guess is that having the elbows locked, helps maintain that triangle throughout the swing. This leads to centered hits, further shots, and more consistency. Is this right?

RE: A Bad Habit
QUESTION:
David:
Am enjoying and benefiting from your book - keep the lessons coming.
One bad fault I cannot kick is this: About 20% of the time, usually from the tee box and usually into a stiff breeze, I will swing too hard in an attempt to hit the ball 20 yards further than I am capable of hitting it. The bad result is that I stiffen my left (forward) knee. This causes me to lift my torso and hit the upper half of the ball. I continue to do this despite repeated attempts to try to make myself swing easier.
Can you suggest some drill that would rid me of this horrible habit?

RE: Fluffy lies around the green
QUESTION:
Bobby,
I have two of your DVDs and have ordered the other two with the 2 for 1 special you are running. The short game DVD has helped me immensely. I recently completed a round on Torrey Pines North where I had two birdies and saved a couple of pars with my new short game. Much of the success is due to increased confidence which seems to feed off itself. In general my short game is improved and keeps improving.
I struggle with a couple of shots around the green still… fluffy lies, where the ball is perched on top of thick soft grass, and deep lies where a clump of grass is right behind the ball. In each case I have no confidence in how to hit the ball or what to expect. On the fluffy lie I am afraid to hit down on the ball thinking I will push it into the grass. If I miss “picking” it off the grass the result is a bladed shot, and another pitch. With the clumpy grass I am not sure how hard to swing. That lack of confidence invariably leads to another shot from off the green.
Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Free question
QUESTION:
I have your new DVD's including the putting DVD. I think your methods and teaching style are very effective. When I swing with confidence, using your set-up, I hit some really good shots. My problem is more mental and I don't know how to control it. I will step up to the ball, take a practice swing (that I am told looks really good), then I address the ball, take it back well and then all hell breaks loose. I will literally lunge at the ball with a hard as I can swing move that leaves no chance at making solid contact. I
know when it happens and it frustrates me to no end. It is like a switch goes off at the top of the back swing.
Can you give me some advice or a drill to help me get over this?
PS. This started when I was playing to a 14 handicap and on the way down. I decided I wanted to hit it further off the tee and started trying out all the "hit it longer" tips I could find. Over the next 2 years I ballooned to a 23 handicap. I currently have a 17.4 factor.

RE: 30 day access question
QUESTION:
Dear Kyle,
I have a question for you that relates to my mental approach to some shots during a round. I am 58 years old and have recently (one season ago) returned to playing golf after a 15 years absence. I have played off a handicap of 11 in the past and now I am off 18 but I can play much better than my current handicap if I can just improve my consistency.
When I play well I have a good swing and a good contact with the ball and I am satisfied with my shots and my game. Although I try to concentrate and think about each upcoming shot occasionally I hit a very poor shot. I catch the ground just behind the ball or I hit the ball with a very closed face and it pops up a little and just bobbles along a short distance or else I make good contact but it shoots directly off to the right. I realize that sometimes it is due to just snatching at the ball with a hurried swing but not always. It will certainly happen at the beginning of a round before I settle down but it will also happen midway through just when things are going well. It seems to happen when I really want to hit a good shot and feel that I can. Can you suggest a mental routine that can help me?
Yours sincerely,
Oliver Kehelly.
Asked by Kehelly on 2006-10-08 20:48:00

Thanks for your e-mail…you can design your own routine on the practice tee and then take it to the golf course...Try this the next time out...Stand behind the ball and aim at your target, address the golf ball, take a peak at where you want to go and then have only ONE swing thought, count to three and swing away...if your concentration is interrupted, back away and start again.

RE: golf
QUESTION:
Dear Mr. Nevogt,
My dream is to become a professional golf player. I am currently 15 years old and want to master golf and make it become a career of mine. As a player with a 7 handicap, I want to make sure that I am in the right path. However, I have many troubles at certain times when practicing. Please help me and try to help the following problems.
1) Should my grip be the same if I complete my backswing and came right back down to the addressing position?
2) What should my handicap be for when I’m 16? To play at college division I and etc.
3) Should I encourage an early wrist cock? (as soon as my hands past my right leg)
4) At impact, should my club head be closed if I were to want a draw?
5) When should I turn my wrist to apply that great wrist action?
Should I TURN my wrist or strike down at the ball and bring it back up? (I usually get a fade when doing this)
6) Should my left arm stay straight at impact and half of the follow through?
7) Finally, should I turn my shoulders as much as I can?
As you can see, I have been struggling to get that wrist action because I have changed my grip to a weaker one. I have found that I would brush my club through impact and my club head would close automatically. I also want to hit down creating good impact and start on working on a draw.
My teacher also wants me to open my stance especially for my pitching and lessen the severity of it for my irons and driver/woods. However, I ultimately end up in a fade... Should I continue with this approach?
Thank you for your time and concern

The pain comes at the impact when the club hit the ball. As I tried not to have lateral movement during the swing, my right hip will experience lots of pressure while transferring weight from right to the left at down swing.

Thanks for your e-mail…that is a remarkable question for a young man like you to ask. Very insightful. OK here we go. Believe it or not it is rather simple, the driver is a foot or so longer than a 9 iron, because of that you stand a foot or so further from the ball with a driver then you do with a 9 iron. Agree? What I have said for the past 30 years is there are 13 clubs in your bag that you hit with and there is only ONE golf swing. Get it. Because you stand further with a driver the club goes AROUND you more. Because you stand closer with a 9 iron the club swings UP and DOWN more. I hope this helped you understand all of the clubs in your bag. One last question for you. What club in your bag goes AROUND and UP AND DOWN? The 5 iron. You are correct. The 5 iron does both, it has some around and some up and down. Lastly, DO NOT THINK ABOUT THIS DURING YOUR SWING….just do it.

QUESTION:
Hi David,
It was a pleasure to see your name in my inbox. I was wondering if you would reply.
To be honest I sometimes toe the shot due to which I think that maybe I am not going down on the ball and so to compensate when I hit down I hit heavy. I think I just have a major problem setting up to the shots because all of a sudden I hit the ball like a peach and the sound is perfect.. The problem is that sometimes I don’t know what I did right to get that result. Every 20 days I have variation in my ball hitting. Can you give me some check points that can get me more accurate and consistent hitting?
Thanks Bobby

RE: Impact position
QUESTION:
Dear Kyle,
I’m a very happy customer of PurePoint Golf, all 3 DVDs really made an improvement on my game, I thank you so much.
I’d also like to thank Bobby for his precious tip to stop slicing with the driver. The feet together drill made me hit straighter shots and get rid of that awful cutting shot. Now I can even draw the ball at will.
With the 3 DVDs I could develop a sound golf swing, but I still have a flaw on it. I’m a little flippy at impact, and have a tendency to scoop the ball, which costs me some yards.
How can I develop a good impact position with a flat left wrist? Do you have any drill for it?
Thank you so much,
Best regards,

RE: Is the simple swing program right for me?
QUESTION:
I want to know if your system is helpful to me. If it is more geared to mid-high handicappers, I have to improve before I’m ready. I got my first clubs a year ago. I can get around a typical course in 60. Putting average is under 2.5, short game needs work, but my REAL problem is outlined below:
At the range, I swing my 7 to about 130-140. Very straight, moderate, consistent. Our local range has a flag/green at 150. It would make sense that I should reach it with a 6, and certainly with a 5. Not so. As I take more club, my distance doesn’t improve, but my accuracy suffers. By the time I get to woods and driver I’m anywhere from 140-225, but only half would hit a fairway on a standard course.
Is playing more, being patient and focusing the best answer this early on, or would your course actually help someone as new as myself?

Michael

Hello Bobby,
This is my first mail to you, even though I have followed your advices for some time.
Let me first congratulate you with the good work on the "Short Game" and "Putter". It's much better than the first DVD "The Simple swing" from a teaching point of view.
I remember reading that old DVD bought from the time your company had the name "Simple Swing" would be updated/upgraded when buying new DVD. So, I am a little disappointed by this.
I am a 68 year male who have never touched a Golf club until 7 months ago. I am in good health and crazy about golf. I play 3 to 4 times + one or two visits to driving range per week.
My handicap is 36 but my best is 104 strokes or 40 Stableford points so it would not take long before my handicap will be reduced. As I am sure you can see, my native language is not English. That’s why I become very confused when you speak slice, hook, choke and on and on.

QUESTION:
Bobby
Since I purchased the putting DVD and updates on the full swing and driver, I believe can email questions to you. Unfortunately I’m in Chicago and freezing temps don’t lend themselves too much practice. I noticed one change in the updated full swing DVD. At set up, you recommend moving the ball from the middle of the stance forward w/ the longer clubs where the original DVD suggested leaving the ball in the middle for all clubs. You also recommend that the butt of the club stay pointed at your belt buckle and that you don’t move your hands or the club forward. It looks like the hands are centered for all of the clubs. How is that possible if the ball is moved forward?
My question is how/where do you set your hands and club once you start moving the ball forward?
Also back in September Kyle forwarded an email I wrote about hitting my short irons (especially wedges) high and short. When you inquired if I was still having problems I responded that I was, however I didn’t hear back from you. Just wondering if there was something that I should specifically be paying attention to. My goal is to hit my full sand wedge 100 yards and my pitching wedge 120-125 yards.
I was able to finally crack 100 (2 xs) with the swing but still need more consistency. Hopefully I call get to a dome over the winter to work on your swing and start next year right.
Appreciate you help

Now, the full swing. The better you become the further forward you can move the golf ball...this is why...the design of the golf clubs the longer they become enables you to move the ball further forward in your stance and still keep the handle in the middle of your body...we are only talking an inch per club, keep it to a minimum at the beginning....

Ok. I really enjoy the DVDs. I can use them to re-check my swing/game especially when there's problem.

I have problem with this club especially the distance (shorter than my previous iron/club). My old club is Cleveland TA5-offset. I felt that this titleist 704 is too heavy for me, thus affect my game, so my option is I want to change its shaft with NS Pro 850GH(R or S). The original shaft is True Temper-Dynamic Gold (R300). Is it ok? FYI, my distance for iron 7 is =150-155 yards. My height is 5 feet 6 inches. I'm 5 handicapper (thanks for the DVDs and tips). From your opinion, what is the best solution? How do you feel purchasing this DVD will help me? And, when will there be more focus on women golfers and their issues?
I have the new Ping's which have helped me get more distance but like your ad says, 43% of my time is spent with my putter!
Maybe I should be looking for instructional info from professional women golfers. I personally feel you are missing a huge market by seemingly targeting men golfers.

RE: Re: Kollin, PurePoint Golf Tips
QUESTION:
Bobby,
I am in the process of looking for new clubs and am drawn to the Mizuno MP-30's. I recently hit a set in a golf store and loved the feel.
As I am out looking online, being the 'do it myselfer' that I am, I came across some terms that I was not familiar with on golf clubs: swing weights and lie angles. I commonly see swing weights at d-2 and saw a lie angle at -2 degrees flat. I am a fairly decent golfer and am searching for clubs with good feel and that can help me control all the torque that I generate when I swing. Should I take into account any of these different club characteristics when looking or am I safe with 'standard' clubs? By the way, I am 6ft 210lbs with even proportioned body and legs.
Not sure if you are into club recommendations, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask. I plan on this set being my set for the next 4-5 years and wanted to make my purchase worthwhile.
Appreciate all of your tips and techniques.
Sincerely,
Kollin
Asked by Kollin Holmgren on 2006-12-12 14:29:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…Lie angle is the term used after you have addressed the golf ball and the sole of the club has been soled…If the toe is up the club is too upright. If the heel is up the club is too flat for you…if you are six feet tall you need a club 0-2 degrees upright, NOT flat. D2 is the term used for weighting the club head vs. the handle. You are ok there, but not on the flat lie. You can go on-line and find a PING fitter in your area, go get fitted, it is free. You might just like something at PING…make sure you get fitted for the proper lie, before you buy anything. As a reminder, if you live in an area where there is a club fitter, for $2 per club he will bend them the correct lie for you…hope this helped

QUESTION:
David,
I would like to thank you for the tips.....so far they are working pretty good as my game is slowly improving. I still have a handicap that is pretty much off the charts (index of 40) but, as a measure of improvement I seldom abandon hole (I pick up at double par) and my rate of lost ball is declining.
One question though regarding golf balls. I am currently using Slazenger Raw Distance Titanium or there Money balls. Direction and distance is great but I can not get them to "stick" on the green and tend to roll off the back. Is this a problem with me or do golf balls really make a difference? Do you have any recommendation for a high performance yet economically priced ball? On a bad day I will still lose 3-5 into the wilderness around our desert courses.
As a general rule, if the ball goes off the course more then 15 feet, it's not going to be found and searching will result in significant bleeding.

RE: Shots to an Elevated Green
QUESTION:
Dear Bobby,
Whenever I have a shot to an elevated fairway/green, my shot trajectory is
low, almost like a line drive in baseball.
For instance, on shots to greens below my level, I hit nice high shots (although I have a tendency to pull them). Shots to an elevated tee just go low but straight.
Why is this and what can I do to correct hitting to an elevated tee/fairway?
Thank you,
Raymond Tompkins
Asked by Raymond on 2006-11-16 20:59:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your email. #1. Sometimes it has a lot to do with what club you are using. A seven, eight or nine iron will fly higher in general than a 5 iron. #2. Going uphill make sure you place 10% more weight on your left foot and stay there in the backswing and then in the downswing this will make you hit down on the ball more. #3 Hit some practice shots from a DOWNHILL lie. This will help you create an angle.

RE: swing
QUESTION:
I have a question concerning the swing, maybe it was covered but I missed it. Let's start with a 7 iron and two different ball positions. The first is teeing the ball up and the second is the ball is on the fairway. When you swing thru the teed up ball, the ball is hit and most good golfers leave the tee intact. When swinging at the fairway ball the club goes below the ball slightly taking out the divot. When setting up golfers let the club head rest on the ground. So when you're swinging the club what is different that allows you to make correct contact with the ball at two different heights? As an example if my swing was exactly the same, my fairway ball would look good and my teed ball would be hit from underneath and pop up.
Asked by David Butler on 2006-12-17 13:22:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…a seven iron on a tee or the ground should take the same amount of divot…ok the teed one should have just a blade less, but it is the same swing. Here lies the problem, no pun intended…good players tee the ball up on par three’s to give themselves a better lie. Amateurs tee the ball UP on par three’s, they tee the ball way to high. Start teeing the ball up for a good lie, not a TEED DRIVER shot. Let me know if this helped.

RE: Re: Ross, Driver Special Report
QUESTION:
Hi David
Five weeks into our season still getting some extra distance consistency a problem (could be age). The driver special is great - higher tee works for me.
Ross
Asked by rokay on 2007-04-07 23:59:00
ANSWER:
Great Ross, I’m glad the higher tee works for you. For consistency in distance, try to keep your left shoulder down on the ball through impact. This is called staying strong through impact. Lots of times the left (I assume right handed) shoulder flies up before impact. Keep the left shoulder down and let your arms and hands release through the ball and you will see the ball go farther and higher.
The best advice I can give you here is to say that your left WRIST as well as your left elbow should be locked at impact. When you set up to the ball, your wrist should be bent a little to get down to the ball. You'll maintain that bend through the backswing. As you start the downswing it should still be bent. At impact your left wrist can't break. When you flip your forearms through the ball both wrists should actually remain straight, but they just rotate together. I hope that makes sense. Get into the impact position. Now flip your right wrist like you would a fishing pole when casting. This is a wrist break. Not what we want. If you put a wrist watch on you'll be able to visualize what we want easier. As your leading arm approaches impact the watch face should be getting close to pointing exactly down the target line. Now ROTATE the watch face to it's pointed at the ground. With a club in your hands, you'll see the this move makes your right hand flip on top of your left. That's the move we want to be completing through impact.
Hope this helps

RE: 2 questions or concerns
QUESTION:
I usually shoot between 75-81 from the tips.
After studying your videos which have truly helped my ball striking already I have two concerns.
1st--It is very hard for me to keep a flat wrist at the top. In your video you show that if the wrist has a bend towards you then you probably slice the ball. I have the wrist towards me but I definitely draw the ball rather than slice the ball. Years ago I studied Hogan's swing and he definitely had a wrist towards him at the top. Should I be concerned since I do have a slight draw even though my wrist is towards me? It feels very awkward and I literally have to make what I feel is a very unnatural move to get my wrist flat.
2nd-- Even though I carry about a seven-nine handicap I have a problem with distance (as we know, I'm not the only one) with my driver. I hit the ball approx. 220-230 off the tee box. After studying and practicing all of your techniques (I didn’t actually see a section on "hitting the ball farther") I just don’t see any increased power off of the tee box especially using the "half swing". I know that if I was able to gain 15-20 yards (actually 30-40 is what I feel I need) off the tee my game would drastically change due to the fact that I hit my irons so solid and my short game is very good. Do you have anything on "gaining distance" or any ideas that would help me to gain distance that fit in with your teachings?
By the way, I am very impressed after only receiving the video today (I will be sending a letter on this) and I know already that my game and ball striking is better. I'm a guy that practices a lot and I literally practiced for eight hours through the day today.
Thanks
Greg

Thanks for your e-mail…leave the wrist alone. Do not try and make it flat, you are fine. Try this the next two months and see if this helps. If you do not want to buy a weighted driver that is fine. You can buy a golf donut at one of the shops in your town or the internet. In the backyard or at the golf course swing a weighted club 20 times right handed and 20 times left handed six days a week for two months. Make sure you take your REAL right hand swing every time. AND, swing as hard as possible. Make sure you can hit some balls after each session or the next day. You need to speed your swing up a couple of mph. Your method is fine, you are a 7 hdcp. You just need a bit of speed. Let me know if this helps.

RE: Driver Question
QUESTION:
I have all three DVDs now and have tried the Driver DVD at the range. I've been tied up with a few projects at home so I haven't been able to play recently. I have been having some problems lately with my woods lately, hitting off the heel and miss hitting. The Driver DVD helped my woods swing quite a bit, but I was still having trouble getting my hands to rotate consistently through the swing; also sometimes have this problem with my irons. I was having a shock in my wrists at times. I tried a grip change I read about in Golf Illustrated. The so-called optimum grip versus the Vardon grip (which I have used for about 35 years). The first five shots with an eight iron were within 6 feet of each other, straight on line. I tried it with the rest of the irons and found I now have a slight draw with the 5 iron on up. I had the same results with the woods. It seems to give up a little distance, but gives consistency in the shot and I don't have the shock in my wrists. I was wondering if this a good grip or am I just reacting to the change by concentrating more closely.

I would very much appreciate if you could give me some good advice for an easy technique and some pictures which I could try out. For your information : I'm right handed and quite long fingers which seems to have some impact on my grip, at least it gives this impression that there are too many fingers and not enough space. RE: RE: Right Elbow Pain
QUESTION:
Thanks for the arm first info-I will now start things that way and see how it works.
As to my grip, when the club head is in the middle of my stance (most of my iron shots) I see 2-3 knuckles on my left hand. When hitting my driver (which I slice the most) or 3 wood I keep my hands forward (about even with my left shoulder or left arm pit) so I don't see any knuckles. Should I be moving my left hand more to my right so that I do see my knuckles when hitting my woods/driver?
Also, I'm pretty sure I'm holding the club too tightly and I've been trying to loosen my club grip. Sometimes (about 2-3 shots per round) I hold it too softly as the club turns in my hands at impact. I guess that's just trial and error on my part.

RE: RE: Stanley, PurePoint Full Swing Pro Newsletter
QUESTION:
Bobby,
I got a bit away from lessons and today took another look at Kyle’s Shave 7 Strokes CD and went to the range. Amazing difference. Thanks again. Two questions:
1. I bought a new $20 Titlest glove and proceeded, in hitting about 70 balls to make a hole in the part of the glove on the pad at the bottom of my left hand below my little finger. I looked at an old glove and found the same hole. What does this say about my grip? Does this mean anything one way or another?
2. I noticed that sometimes the ball seemed to sail off the clubface with little to no effort whereas other times it went straight but only about 20-30 yards shorter, say with a 5 or 6 iron and didn’t feel as clean. I think the difference might have been when I turned my shoulders more evenly on backswing, the ball went very well but if I turned and really tried to ‘juice it’ then I dipped my right shoulder on forward swing and hit it a bit fat. How to avoid this?
I look forward to responses. Thank you.

ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…you are gripping the golf club too much in the fingers of the left hand. Move the grip up a tiny bit more to the palm. RE: RE: Steve, Putting, and Sand Play Advice
QUESTION:
Hi David,
Thank you for the tip on putting but what do think about NOT hitting the ball hard enough to go past the hole at all?
My thoughts are that if you do hit hard enough that if it misses it goes about 12" past, means that lip outs will occur more often if you just off the line, as the pall still has enough energy to move forward.
By hitting the ball to not go past the hole at all, lip ins will occur if you just off the line and save par or create birdies.
If you're just short of the hole, the line the ball is on is the line to take when finishing off the putt and not the reverse line of what you just saw.
The hole will also be a larger target, instead of being just over 4" it becomes just over 6", as balls will fall in from the edge of the hole more often.

Another problem I am having is on my chips I think that I am aligned properly but it always misses the target usually to the right and my weight is always off, although I am not sure that anyone can help me with that.
If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate them.

QUESTION:
Good morning, Bobby-I am sure you cannot answer ever email that you are sent however I thought that I would try. I have purchased both your Long Game Series and Pitching and Chipping DVD's. I have been going to the driving range regularly and am doing fairly good. I am unable to play the golf courses more than a few times a year do to a number of reasons.
I recently was able to play twice within a 3 week period and did not do well (except for putting) either time. I am not nervous about playing but find myself topping and hitting behind the ball way too much. I try to remember what you have taught on your DVDs but cannot seem to correct this problem, however, when I go to the driving range I do much better. I am 63 years old and wish that I could go to one of your teaching schools however that is not possible. I guess what I am looking for are some words of encouragement. Do I keep working on my game or maybe it is time to try a new sport?

QUESTION:
I've watched the DVD and I have a question: Club Head speed? No where on the video do I see a remark or reference about club head speed.
For instance, when pitching the ball from the 8 o'clock position, 9 o'clock or 11 o'clock, how fast should the golf club be moving? And, won't this affect the distance the ball travels? Also, I have a high trajectory when pitching with the 60 degree wedge but a very low trajectory with the 9 iron (45 degrees). I don't understand why the 9 iron trajectory is very low, less than 45 degrees.

Thanks for your e-mail…yes the speed will influence the distance. You are not trying to have a fast club head speed. The next time you watch golf on TV watch the PACE the good players swing at and then you can try and repeat it…look at the pace I swing the wedges. The 9 iron chip is supposed to be low.

QUESTION:
Hi Bobby
I have just ordered your short game DVD for myself for Christmas. Bobby, my biggest problem in golf is not getting to the green, it's getting on the green with some accuracy. I hit a long ball, play off 24 handicap, have only been playing 7 years once per week but now am playing 2-3 times a week. I am an ac curate putter, very rarely taking 3 putts, my long irons are respectable but not very straight, but I fall down on my chipping to the green. Even from 20 yards out I clutch down on the 7 or 9 iron and try to elevate underneath the ball and I come up long or short each time. I don't dare use a wedge for these shots as they are damn awful! Please teach me how to judge where to put the ball on the green so that it runs to the pin!

RE: Lesson 4 and 5 from David Nevogt
QUESTION:
Hi David,
Thank you for lessons 4 & 5. I went to the driving range for the first time yesterday since receiving all the documentation about the "Simple Golf Swing" from you, and although I learned a few things about the swing from your ebook, I still struggled with different clubs.
First with chipping, I did ok, but it could have been better. With the 8 and 9 irons off the grass, I wasn't able to get much distance, maybe 70 yards. I was aiming for 100. Then I switched to a 5 iron using a tee, and I did so with the same distance problem. I was able to make good contact at times, but I wasn't able to keep the ball low. I don't know how to put strength and power into my swing. I'm not getting the distance, and my follow through is not complete. Maybe my arms are going faster than my body, I don't know.
Next, I used my new driver. On a high tee, (3 inched off the ground), I wasn't exactly able to keep the ball straight, and again, I wasn't comfortable with my swing. I tried to keep my elbows against my body (the towel), but I wasn't swinging hard enough to keep the ball straight. I'm sure the rotation of my hips was fine. Maybe my arms went to far back, I'm not sure. One thing for sure, I take my eyes off the ball too soon, but I'm positive there's more to it than that. My new driver has a 10 degree club face, and when I hit the ball, it looked like I was hitting a fly ball in center field, instead of a line drive. Why? Any tips you can provide me with my problems would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

RE: Chicago Golf Academy Released
QUESTION:
David,
I purchased your simple swing e book months and months ago, read through it and then tried to use it on the course. This resulted in every ball hooking badly, I promptly thought that this was another gimmick to fool us golfers and get us to pay out more money. (I also thought the swing looked very strange)
Since then my golf has been up and down, one day I can shoot a 76, and the next it could be an 86 or even 96. I am a 7 handicap golfer and am desperate to find some consistency, so after another poor loss in the club scratch singles (after loosing 8 and 7) I got the e-book out again and read through it, then went to the range to try and ingrain the mechanics. To my surprise I managed to shoot a gross 80 which is only 2 over my handicap, and I also hit a few duff chips along the way.
I am going to persevere with your system now, and hopefully my golf will continue to improve. One thing that I would like some advice on is,
1, Some of my shots either go straight right especially the driver (approx 20yds off target) or hook excessively (mainly irons).
2, My ball flight is not consistent, sometimes quite low.
Do you have any idea what I may be doing wrong???
Kind regards,

RE: driver problems
QUESTION:
Hello Kyle,
Received your DVD last week and just want to clarify a couple of points please.
1) There is no mention of ball positioning. Do you suggest that all irons are played from the mid point in the stance ?
2) After a few practice sessions I cannot get the driver to function properly although it was better last night after changing to the interlock grip as you suggested on the DVD. Where do I position the ball ? The driver now seems underpowered and seem to either get a block to the right or a snap hook left and the straight ones are weak.
The irons are coming along well, can't believe how straight they go so it should be interesting to take it to the course this weekend. Being on a low handicap it is important that I get the ball off the tee so help on the driver would be appreciated.

I do keep my arms relaxed at address, during take off and all the way till I reach the top of my back swing. From there onwards, I try to bring the club down with a gradual increase in speed and continue it till I fully complete the swing. I am hitting roughly 70% of the fairways with the Driver. RE: level shoulder turn
QUESTION:
Hi David
I've read this a few times, shoulder turn that stays level and parallel to the ground. Did some searches that also say the same thing, but alas like many other terms in golf instruction I am totally confused on how one could swing a golf club keeping a line through the shoulders(that's what I'm assuming) parallel to the ground. The only way it would be possible would be standing upright hitting a ball at chest level? It would appear that it means something else but has been picked up as jargon by many golf pros to describe whatever problem they are talking about?
Is there something I'm missing here.

Asked by leosira on 2006-12-11 17:17:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail. Let me try it another way...the driver is the longest club in the bag, this is the swing that comes the closest to keeping your shoulders level to the ground...Your interpretation is correct. The lob wedge is the shortest club, hence, you stand closer to the ball and the club swings up and down, THE SHOULDERS ARE NOT AS LEVEL WITH THIS SWING...you can not swing your shoulders level to the ground even with the driver. However, yes, it is golf lingo....

Asked by rob-stevenson on 2006-11-30 10:16:00
ANSWER:
The closed stance encourages a draw or hook, moving the right foot back two or three inches after you have addressed the golf ball will allow the club to travel a bit more from the inside….an open stance, feet aiming left of target encourages a fade or slice. Moving the left foot left after address will allow this to happen….the stance is not the only part of the golf swing that encourages spin on the ball.

QUESTION:
Hi Bobby,
I still enjoy your tips and DVD´s. I think they are verry usefull to me.
I would like to ask your help in one of the problems I am facing during training.
When I´m on the driving range I mostly start swinging with the 9 , 7, 5, woods en finish with the Driver. (By the way I almost got rid of my slice completely , thanks to your DVD).
Most of the time I end my practice with the wedges ,playing about 50 balls to the pin at 30-50 meters. And then it happens: The first 10-20 bals I manage to get them within 1-2 meters from the pin. And all of a sudden I start to shank the ball.
When I continue with the short irons I keep shanking , so I better go home frustrated. When I change to a few full swings with the 9 iron , the prisision returns and I can play a few chips with my wedge again till I start shanking again.
Can you explain what is happening and what I can do to prevent this
Thanks (and have a nice day)

QUESTION:
Bobby,
Thanks for the instructional video's they are great...I do have on problem I am not able to figure out... when I take my regular swing with my driver and irons I am losing quite a bit of distance due to skying the ball. I have tried to correct but nothing is working...thought I would write you instead of messing up my swing more by compensating or correcting it the wrong way.
Any help or comments you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Mr Bobby,
I had purchased four series of your DVDs. After going through the DVD, my iron and short game improve tremendously. My biggest obstacle now is still struggling with my driver. I had consistent poor drive towards the left or severe hook. If this problem does not appear, I would have a beautiful shot. Is there any way to advise me?

Thanks in advance,

QUESTION:
Bobby,
Thanks for the advice and I'll definitely be practicing it. Now for the Hook in my irons, I've been practicing the grip position you discussed on your DVD and it seems to have really helped on the driving range. My ball is flying a lot straighter. What this essentially has done is given me one grip for my woods (slice) and another grip for my irons (Hook).
Is this OK?

RE: I bought the pure and simple golf swing
QUESTION:
HI David
I will send you detailed feedback on the DVD soon but for now I have a question or 21) I own a BAZOOKA driving iron. I battle so much to hit my normal 3 and 4 irons but the Bazooka I manage better (a bit). Is it OK for me to remove my 3 and 4 iron from my bag and use the driving iron or will this impair me in the long run? Call me a weekend golfer striving to play off a 14 handicap. Am 18 handicap now and just play to enjoy golf/
Secondly, looking at the simple golf swing, I am not sure whether I should apply the iron logic or the Wood logic to the driving iron? Can I purely apply the iron logic?
I will be most grateful for your input

QUESTION:
Dear David,
I tried using your system today. I may NOT be perfect yet, but I had several good drives, then the ugly duck hook crept in. Of course, always on the wrong holes. I am NOT worried about the slice. I do NOT have a slice, but I do have a duck hook that gets me into trouble.
I played today trying your new system. I had the same problems. In fact, I thought I was going to go out there, hit the ball, and break 90. But NO, I had the worst round of this year. Is your system really worthwhile?

QUESTION:
Hi Kyle
I just wanted to let you know that the DVD has already helped me a great deal with my iron play and overall confidence on the course. On average I am shooting about 5-6 strokes lower with minimal practice time. With that being said I still have a major flaw in my game and that is my inability to hit solid consistent fairway woods and rescue clubs. Do you have any tips on alignment etc that might help?

Hi my name is Christian,
I’m 16 years old and currently a 3 handicap. I play golf on the Canadian Junior Golf Association and I am having trouble hitting my 3 wood. I am very consistent with all my clubs except for the 3 wood. I often hit the ball either chunky or thin. Even when I feel as though I hit a good shot it is only traveling about 215, which is the same distance as my two irons. I don't know if it’s a problem with set up but I find I cannot make solid contact. Of the tee I’m fine with it but of the fairway it is as it I’m a 20 handicap with that club. Please email me back with help. I appreciate it greatly.

RE: Re: Alberto- How to Hit a Draw - Pro Newsletter
QUESTION:
Thanks for the tips, they are helping my game out......I started having problems with the forged irons I recently purchased. I am having difficulty hitting the ball solid. Because the head of the forged irons are smaller than the R7 CGB'S I was used to using, I have been hitting behind the ball or getting underneath the ball leaving a divot but not getting solid contact with the ball.. I noticed the blades cut through the grass like butter. The reason I switched to them was to help ease the stress on my wrist from hitting down on the ball. The blades help reduce the impact on my wrist, are much harder to hit on a consistent basis. My SCGA index is currently a 7 but have not been consistent enough lately to play at that level. Do you have any tips or training techniques to help with hitting the blades more consistent??? The last thing I noticed was that the forged blades were much heavier than the R7 CGB's and my tempo is off. My arms are much quicker through the swing and my hands are falling behind, thus on several occasions having a horrible slice.
Asked by alberto leos on 2006-09-29 11:22:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…try this the next time out…since the forged clubs are more difficult to hit, start with the 9 iron and practice with the 9 until you improve. Then you can move up to the 8 iron and so on. Hopefully you did not sell the old set. Once you get to the 5 or 6 iron you might find that you are better with the cast long irons. In my bag I have 7-LOB forged, 3-6 cast. Give it a try

RE: From arnold
QUESTION:
Hi Bobby,
I received your DVD on the full swing 5 days ago, after watching it numerous times to find my faults, I started playing using your information. You don't mention anything about woods on the DVD and I find after hitting a drive of 200 yards, I will always follow up with a 5 wood and then a pitching wedge on a par 5. I know the woods are more of a shoulder turn and a sweeping motion than the irons, but I struggle to hit the ball with the irons. For example: my 7 iron I only manage to get 110 to 120 yards from , yet with my 5 wood I do 180 yards. My pitching wedge I can hit 80 yards. I believe my problem is that I don't strike the ball first and then a divot. Even if I try and stand taller, I still do not get the divot, please advise.
Thanking you,
Arnold Stoch
Asked by Arnold & Adrienne on 2007-01-24 10:34:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…to hit ball first then divot, you have to BEND over more, not taller….try your 9 iron first, then move up the set.

RE: Full Swing
QUESTION:
I have been working on my full swing with help from Kyle's DVD and now from your suburb new Full-Swing DVD. I need help with this. I need to know more about how relaxed my arms should feel during the swing. I think I put too much body into my swing, and it seems that I play better when my arms are very relaxed throughout the swing. Sometimes I concentrate on "disconnecting my arms from my body" so that I can swing more freely. But this is nearly impossible for me to do. I want to HIT he ball. When I do relax my arms, I can't figure out where the power is going to come from. Should I feel like my torso is powering the swing? Or my arms? Should my hands feel passive and relaxed? If I try to make my hands hit the ball, I end up with a poorly hit shot with no distance.
Also I have trouble with the timing. I think my body gets in front of my arms too often. I don't think I am staying connected very well. I hit a lot of hooks and a lot of shots straight, but to the left.
I watch you swing and it seems that you are not putting a whole lot of effort into your swings, but the result is good. I want to learn how to do that.
Asked by Virgil Finley on 2006-12-12 18:27:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…The golf swing is an arms swing...the body moves to compliment the arms. Now, for timing, put both feet together and hit some balls....Toes and heels touching and you will start to FEEL your swing. The left arm should be straight in the golf swing, not rigid, but long. Not too relaxed in the rest of the arms...let me know if this helped.

Dear Bobby,
I have just received the new full swing DVD and it seems different from the original. In the original there seemed to be more emphasis on starting the downswing with the weight shift of the front leg. The new DVD did not place much emphasis on how to start the downswing. Can you elaborate on this for me?
Sincerely,
