RE: Re: Bill, Bunker Play

QUESTION:
Hi David

Thanks. When it stops raining so much I shall practice. Were you going to say anything about hard sand? My course has pretty hard sand/grit that is compacted. Difficult to get a club under the ball. An inch behind sometimes skids into the ball because of the hardness of the sand. Any tips?

Bill

ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…the hardest shot in golf. HARD SAND. 80% of your weight on your left side, swing UP and DOWN…LOW follow thru and maybe a pitching wedge instead of a sand wedge.

Let me know how it goes…

RE: Re: Bill, Lesson 4 and 5 from David Nevogt

QUESTION:
DAVID

TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT SAND PLAY. HOWEVER I PLAY ALL SAND SHOTS AN INCH BEHIND THE BALL OPENING THE FACE 30 OR 45 DEGREES DEPENDING UPON DISTANCE REQUIRED. HOW YOU DESCRIBE THE SETUP IS REALLY SIMPLE TOO.

RE THE CROSS-OVER OF FOREARMS. I MAY BE DOING THIS NATURALLY BUT WHEN I MAKE A DELIBERATE EFFORT TO CROSSOVER FOREARMS THE BALL GOES LOW AND LEFT AND OFTEN I'M HITTING THE GROUND FIRST AND SO LOSE DISTANCE TOO. ANY THOUGHTS?

REGARDS

ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…are you ready? You are never going to hit the ground behind the ball again.

#1 LIFT YOUR CHIN UP AN INCH OR TWO AT ADDRESS…#2 HOLD ON WITH THE LEFT HAND A TINY BIT FIRMER THAN THE RIGHT…

RE: RE: Hans, Use Better Course Management

QUESTION:
Hi David,

I started using your method two weeks ago and now I start to see results off the tee and from the fairway. My last game I dropped 10 strokes (from 120 to 110, yes I'm a beginner) and I feel confident that I will improve further rapidly. Your method takes the stress away and builds confidence. Still I have some trouble when hitting from the rough or bunkers (getting the ball in the air). Any advice on how to approach those shots? I'm 6'9", my clubs are 1 " longer than standard length and I have more trouble hitting with my 9 and 8 irons then with my 7, 6, 5 or 4. Even my 46" driver feels more comfortable.

ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…to get some loft from the rough or bunker, put more weight on the left side and stay there in the backswing.

RE: RE: Johan, PurePoint Golf - Analyze your Finish

QUESTION:
Good morning out of South Africa,

The tips I received from you about the swing - start the swing with arm first, keep lower body still and lead shoulder down on back swing, did help me very much . I can now draw the ball, which I was not able to achieve before your tips. Old habits take time to die - I need to work on my consistency.

My bunker play needs to improve - I either left it in the bunker or it flies out of the bunker.

Regards

ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…Happy New Year from the US.

How are you? Bunker play - #1) the ball across from your left heel. #2) 70% of your weight on your left leg. #3) swing your ARMS up and down, not your body. #4) follow thru LOW....

Regarding bunker shots around the green, is there any time I should use a club other than sand wedge to get the ball out?

Thanks

If you have a long green side bunker shot, you can use a pitching wedge or gap wedge.
