RE: Great tips
QUESTION:
Great tips! Keep ‘em coming. I guess this is a stupid question, at what point do you determine when a chip becomes a pitch?
Roger Corn
County Judge
Callahan County
Asked by Roger Corn on 2006-10-31 09:27:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your email Roger. A chip is 1/3 air 2/3 roll and a pitch is 2/3 air and 1/3 roll.
HOWEVER, if the 1/3 does not reach the green, it becomes a pitch…..
If the 1/3 air can land on the green it is a chip…
I hope this helped. Let me know.
Thanks,

RE: Re: Ball of Gradual Downhill Lie
QUESTION:
Thank you Bobby!
When my ball lands in the tall grass at the edge of the fairway, I normally cannot lift it out at a normal distance. However, when the last PGA was played on the same course, I noticed that this grass is not a hindrance to pros at all.
Should I use a higher loft club? Do I have to chop or scoop the ball?
Appreciate your valuable advice.

ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…a few things for you to think about. #1 The pros have strength and technique that neither you nor I have. They are very strong and it may not appear to you that they are hindered, but they are. Deep grass will affect the best of them. #2 Make sure you take plenty of loft to get back into play. Do not try and be too greedy. #3 Weight on your left side at address and CHOP down to get the maximum distance.

RE: Balasan: Amran, How Playing Short Will Save Your Strokes
QUESTION:
Dear David, Thanks for your tips. I’ve applied most tips that you had given and I have improved in my score/stroke. Last time I played, my score was 95-100 and now I can manage my score to 86-93 every time I play.
Now I just want to improve my putting and chipping. My shot below 80 meters, what iron should I use? Approach 52 degree? Pitching wedges? Because my pitching distance is about 110-120 meters.
Please advise me about that...thank you.

RE: Ball of Gradual Downhill Lie
QUESTION:
Dear Bobby,
In our local golf club, the fairways on hole No. 6 & No. 9 have water hazards that are about 120 yards from the greens.
The problem is the fairway on both holes is gradually sloping downwards towards the water and it is normal for me to lose one or two balls in the water before I reach the green.
How can I overcome this problem? How do I hit the ball that is on a very gradual downhill lie? Do I have to select a less lofted club? Do I have to compress or scope the ball?
Appreciate your advice.

RE: Short game
QUESTION:
David,
I have just re-read the short game text on the "Simple Chip" that I purchased from you. I have found it to be very good, however as things seem to go in golf, my short game has deteriorated slightly and I re-read the
text. My question is you don't mention club selection in the text. Which club do you recommend for a 10 yard, 20 yard chip etc.? How about from out of normal length rough, deep rough etc? I would appreciate to hear what you recommend.
I have been on the "simple swing" plan now for over a year and my game is more consistent and I have lowered my score as you have promised. Thank you!
Sincerely,
John Garrison

RE: golf swing
QUESTION:
Although I haven't had a chance to work on things at the driving range, I did play on Saturday and tried to work on your swing technique. I did make better contact with the ball, especially on my fairway woods; however, I am having problems with controlling where the ball is going. I pushed it right a lot and left a few times, I also skied it a few times. Another problem I am having is on my chips I think that I am aligned properly but it always misses the target usually to the right and my weight is always off, although I am not sure that anyone can help me with that.
If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate them.
Thank you

RE: Club to use for Chipping/Pitching
QUESTION:
Dear David,
What club do you recommend for chipping/pitching? The club selection was not mentioned in The Simple Chip. I currently use my approach wedge but have never found consistency in my shots. I either top the ball or run the club head into the ground and end up fat and short.
Please advise.
Thanks.

RE: Distance for Pitching & hitting cleanly with the driver
QUESTION:
Hi Bobby
1) How do I gage distance for pitching?:
- is it club selection
- or change back swing, if so by how much.
2) I am not hitting my driver cleanly, but try to keep in mind all drills required. I am not sure if I am holding my driver too long. How do I know whether I am standing correctly to address the driver effectively?
Thanks

RE: Help!
QUESTION:
Good morning, Bobby-I am sure you cannot answer ever email that you are sent however I thought that I would try. I have purchased both your Long Game Series and Pitching and Chipping DVD's. I have been going to the driving range regularly and am doing fairly good. I am unable to play the golf courses more than a few times a year do to a number of reasons.
I recently was able to play twice within a 3 week period and did not do well (except for putting) either time. I am not nervous about playing but find myself topping and hitting behind the ball way too much. I try to remember what you have taught on your DVDs but cannot seem to correct this problem, however, when I go to the driving range I do much better. I am 63 years old and wish that I could go to one of your teaching schools however that is not possible. I guess what I am looking for are some words of encouragement. Do I keep working on my game or maybe it is time to try a new sport?
Thank you

RE: question on chips
QUESTION:
David:
I am going through your chipping method and hoping to improve there as it is one of my weakest areas!! I have a question regarding club selection. You do not mention anything with regards to which clubs to use or just use the same club all the time.
I am assuming that I should use this method for all strokes between 70 yard pitch shots to 10 feet chip shots off the green? Am I correct?
Appreciate your help in advance.
Thanks.

RE: I've watched the DVD and I have a question:
QUESTION:
I've watched the DVD and I have a question: Club Head speed? No where on the video do I see a remark or reference about club head speed.
For instance, when pitching the ball from the 8 o'clock position, 9 o'clock or 11 o'clock, how fast should the golf club be moving? And, won't this affect the distance the ball travels? Also, I have a high trajectory when pitching with the 60 degree wedge but a very low trajectory with the 9 iron (45 degrees). I don't understand why the 9 iron trajectory is very low, less than 45 degrees.
Raymond
Asked by Raymond on 2006-12-22 11:24:00
ANSWER:
Thanks for your e-mail…yes the speed will influence the distance. You are not trying to have a fast club head speed. The next time you watch golf on TV watch the PACE the good players swing at and then you can try and repeat it…look at the pace I swing the wedges. The 9 iron chip is supposed to be low.

RE: short game help
QUESTION:
Hi Bobby
I have just ordered your short game DVD for myself for Christmas. Bobby, my biggest problem in golf is not getting to the green, it's getting on the green with some accuracy. I hit a long ball, play off 24 handicap, have only been playing 7 years once per week but now am playing 2-3 times a week. I am an ac curate putter, very rarely taking 3 putts, my long irons are respectable but not very straight, but I fall down on my chipping to the green. Even from 20 yards out I clutch down on the 7 or 9 iron and try to elevate underneath the ball and I come up long or short each time. I don't dare use a wedge for these shots as they are damn awful! Please teach me how to judge where to put the ball on the green so that it runs to the pin!
Regards and Merry Christmas to you and your

QUESTION:
Bob...
Once again... Wow... The "Short Game DVD" is another Winner Wow... I found my self saying "Ahhh.... Yeah, I get it! I always had a problem with determining Pitch and Chip setup and I have never been consistent, but now, I have a method that I'm confidence with. I went out and practiced it, I charted out my Avg Chip Distances and got through my Sand Wedge Distances. The Pitching Method reminds me of Dave Pelz's Short Game Method. I think taping the distances to your club along with the clock positions is a great idea the Dave had. I'm excited about getting the Putting DVD...
I do have a question, if I'm say 100 yards out, is this a full swing with my 100 yard Wedge or would this be a long Pitch with a say a Pitching Wedge or 9 Iron, what do you recommend?

RE: What else!
QUESTION:
David
Since adopting your Simple Swing (in December), my long game consistency has improved significantly. I play off 19 but my short game (excl putting) and most particularly the short chip is a major impediment to improving my scores. I have implemented the Simple Chip but it’s probably fair to say that I have the chipping yips! I tend to strangle the club, look up or break my wrists no matter how often I tell myself to focus on the opposites.
Any advice would be most welcome as I am convinced your swing has the potential to take me a few shots lower, provided I can get past this barrier!!
